Accepted International Student Checklist

I-20s

  • I-20s are mailed via eShipGlobal.
  • In order to have your original I-20 and acceptance letter sent to you for your visa appointment, go to eShipGlobal.
This is an express mail service that will allow you to receive these documents through DHL or FedEx in 3-5 days.

Checklist:

  • Pay I-901 Fee - at least 3 days before your VISA appointment at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your country.
Information on paying the fee can be found at http://www.ice.gov/sevis/i901/.
  • Apply for VISA at U.S. Embassy or Consulate -
Consult the U.S. Department of State’s website for information on what you will need for your appointment: https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/study-exchange.html
Not all countries require a visa, so please consult your U.S. Embassy or Consulate

Once your VISA is approved:

  • Apply for housing - All undergraduate freshman must reside in campus housing.
Housing is available but optional for ELI students and upperclassmen.
The housing web site is https://www.columbusstate.edu/residence-life.
    • Early or Late check-in - If you need to check-in earlier than the time listed, or if you are arriving late in the evening after check-in hours have ended, you will need to notify Residence Life reslife@columbusstate.edu.
    • Music, Art and Theatre majors are strongly advised to select River Park Housing due to its closeness to the Fine Arts campus in downtown Columbus. You will have this option on your application.
  • Arrival
Make your travel arrangements to arrive 5 days before the start of classes. This will ensure that you are able to attend orientation, which is held the Thursday and Friday prior to the start of classes.
Go to the Orientation webpage to confirm exact dates.
  • Getting to Columbus
You should arrange to fly into the Atlanta-Hartsfield Jackson International Airport. Atlanta is approximately 90 miles north of Columbus.
Once there, you will find a shuttle service called Groome Transportation, which runs hourly to Columbus and is located at the Domestic Terminal, Ground Transportation area, outside the baggage claim area.
You can find out more information about this shuttle service by visiting the Groome Website.
  • Orientation - Sign up for International Student Orientation
  • Tuition and Fees - Be prepared to pay tuition and fees the first week of classes – you will be given an opportunity during orientation to open a U.S. bank account.
