ARTE 3210. Art in Elementary School (1-4-3) Materials and methods for the
development of art activities in the elementary school classroom.
Experiences with working with various art media appropriate for the
elementary school classroom. For the non-art majors only.
ARTE 3215. Teaching Art in Elementary School (3-1-3) Prerequisite:
Admission to Teacher Education. A study of teaching methods and curriculum
for instructing art in grades K-5. Public school observation is required.
ARTE 3555. Selected Topics in Art Education (3-0-3) A study of various
topics in art education. The course may be repeated for credit if the
topic is different.
ARTE 4210. Art in Middle and High School (3-1-3) Prerequisite: Admission to
Teacher Education. A study of teaching methods and curriculum for
instructing art in the middle and high school. Public school observation
is required.
ARTE 4485. Student Teaching: Art (0-40-10 hours) Prerequisite: Admission to
Teacher Education. Co-requisite: ARTE 4795. Observation, participation and instruction in a P-12
classroom. Cooperative supervision by selected classroom teachers and
college faculty. (S/U grading)
ARTE 4795. Seminar in Art Education (1-0-1) Prerequisite: Admission to
Teacher Education. Co-requisite: ARTE 4485. Discussion of the common problems encountered in
student teaching.
ARTE 6186. Graduate Problem: Art Education (3-0-3) Research problems based
on student's background and interests. May be taken twice for credit.
ARTE 6795. Seminar: Concepts in Art Education (3-0-3) A study of concepts,
content and current issues in art education.
ARTE 6796. Seminar: Curriculum in Art Education (3-0-3) A study of
curriculum theory, approaches to teaching and learning, and curriculum
development.
ARTE 6797. Seminar: Research in Art Education (3-0-3) Discussion of
research studies in art and education. Emphasis on methodology and
research design.
ARTE 7000. Graduate Exam/Exhibit (0-0-0) Satisfactory grade in this course
indicates completion of a graduate exhibition and/or thesis for the MEd
Degree in Art Education. (S/U grading.)
