HIST 1111. Survey of World Civilization 1 (3-0-3) A survey of world history to early modern times.

HIST 1112. Survey of World Civilization 2 (3-0-3) A survey of world history from early modern times to the present.

HIST 2110. Survey of U. S. History (3-0-3) A survey of major themes and topics in United States history to the present. Satisfies legislative requirement for US and GA history.

HIST 2116. Multi-Cultural History of the Americas (3-0-3) A survey of the multi-cultural history of the Americas which geographically encompasses North America, Central America, the Caribbean, and South America. Emphasis placed on the multi-cultural aspects of these geographic areas as related to their social, economic, political, and institutional history.

HIST 2127. History of World’s Religions: A Survey (3-0-3) A survey of the major religions of the world in the context of their historical origins and the influence on the political, social, and economic developments and institutions in Europe, Asia, Africa and America.

HIST 3105. History of Georgia (3-0-3) Prerequisites: HIST 2110. Survey of the political, economic, and social development of Georgia from the pre-Columbian period until the present viewed in relationship to its position in American history. Satisfies legislative requirement for GA history.

HIST 3106. U. S. History since 1945 (3-0-3) Prerequisite: HIST 2110. The course will assess the impact of the Cold War and its ending on American politics and society. The impact of Civil Rights, the Women’s and other movements will be studied.

HIST 3107. American Indian History (3-0-3) Prerequisite: HIST 2110. An ethno-historical approach to the diverse histories of the Indian people of North American with special emphasis on Native American voices and southeastern cultures.

HIST 3108. Battles and Leaders of the Civil War (3-0-3) Prerequisite: HIST 2110. A detailed study of the campaigns, battles, and personalities of the American Civil War.

HIST 3109. The American Republic 1787-1848 (3-0-3) Prerequisite: HIST 2110. A study of the establishment and development of the American Republic from the adoption and ratification of the Federal Constitution to the end of the Jacksonian Era.

HIST 3115. African American History to 1865 (3-0-3) Prerequisites: HIST 2110. A survey beginning with African background and tracing the establishment of slavery as the dominant fixture in the colonial south while revealing the impact of African Americans on the economics, politics, and values of the nation.

HIST 3116. African American History since 1865 (3-0-3) Prerequisites: HIST 2110. Survey of African American as freedman in 1865 and tracing the social economic, and political adjustments and advancements during the 19th and 20th century.

HIST 3117. United States Civil Rights Movement (3-0-3) Prerequisites: HIST 2110. The course concentrates on the history of the US Civil Rights movement with emphasis on the period from 1945 to 1965. Some background will be covered from 1920-1945.

HIST 3118. U. S. and Vietnam (3-0-3) Prerequisite: HIST 2110. The course will analyze U. S. involvement in Vietnam.

HIST 3125. Historiography (3-0-3) Prerequisites: HIST 2110. An introduction to research techniques and concepts used in the writing of history. Representative historians and their works will be studied.

HIST 3145. Colonial America (3-0-3) Prerequisites: HIST 2110. A study of the political, economic, social, religious and multi-cultural aspects of colonial America.

HIST 3146. American Military History (3-0-3) Prerequisites: HIST 2110. Survey of American military history from the seventeenth century to present.

HIST 3147. American Economic History (3-0-3) Prerequisites: HIST 2110. Major economic developments in the United States from colonial times.

HIST 3166. Germany since 1815 (3-0-3) Prerequisites: HIST 1111 or HIST 1112. A history of Germany in its European and world settings since 1815.

HIST 3169. History of Women (3-0-3) Prerequisites: HIST 1111 or HIST 1112. A survey of the roles women have played in the major world civilizations.

HIST 3188. History of Mexico (3-0-3) Prerequisites: HIST 1111 or HIST 1112. Survey of the political, economic, and social development of Mexico from the pre-Columbian period until the present viewed in relationship to its position in Latin American history.

HIST 3505. Selected Topics in Nineteenth Century United States History (3-0-3) Prerequisites: HIST 2110. Selected topics from the many aspects of United States history. Topics will vary with the professor. May be taken twice for credit if the topic is different.

HIST 3506. Selected Topics in Twentieth Century United States History (3-0-3) Prerequisites: HIST 2110. Topics will include many aspects of United States history. Topics will vary with the professor. May be taken twice for credit if the topic is different.

HIST 3507. Selected Topics in the American South (3-0-3) Prerequisites: HIST 2110. Selected topics relating to the development of the American South. Topics will vary. May be taken twice for credit if the topic is different.

HIST 3558. Selected Topics in Asian History (3-0-3) Prerequisites: HIST 1111 or HIST 1112. Topics in the history of the Far East with emphasis on China and Japan. Topics will vary by theme and chronology. Course may be taken twice for credit if the topic is different.

HIST 4000. Baccalaureate Examination in History (0-0-0) Prerequisites: Completion of 24 hours of history and senior status. Satisfactory grade in this course indicates completion of the baccalaureate examination for the BA degree in history. (S/U grading.)

HIST 4539. Selected Topics in Twentieth Century Europe (3-0-3) Prerequisites: HIST 1111 or HIST 1112. Selected topics in the history of Europe between 1914 and 1991. Topics will vary. May be taken twice for credit with different topic.

HIST 4698. Internship (1-6 hours) Prerequisite: consent of the department chair. Experience in applied history (museums, historical societies, historic preservation, archival collections) under close faculty supervision. (S/U grading.)

HIST 4795. Senior Research Seminar (3-0-3) Prerequisites: Consent of department chair. Students will write a major research paper under the direction of the faculty.

HIST 4899. Independent Study (3-0-3) Prerequisites: Completion of twelve semester hours of history courses numbered 3000 or higher or consent of department chair. Areas and topics of study vary with instructors. May be taken twice for credit.

HIST 5105. History of Columbus and the Chattahoochee Valley (3-0-3) Prerequisite: HIST 2110. The history of Columbus and the Chattahoochee Valley from the pre-Colombian period until the present which explores the relationship between local developments and those on the state, regional, and national levels.

HIST 5106. Local History Research Methods (3-0-3) Prerequisite: HIST 2110. Students will be introduced to various research methodologies used to reconstruct the history of rural areas, neighborhoods, and communities. Analysis of the built environment and architectural styles will be emphasized.

HIST 5107. History in Film (3-0-3) Prerequisite: HIST 1111 or HIST 1112. A study of historical subjects presented in film. Students will develop the ability to analyze, evaluate, and discuss the elements of film, particularly as those elements are used for constructing representations of history in film.

HIST 5108. History and Politics of the Modern Middle East (3-0-3) Prerequisite: HIST 1111 or HIST 1112. The course will examine main developments in the history of the Middle East since World War I.

HIST 5555. Selected Topics: Issues and Movements in World History (3-0-3) Prerequisite: HIST 1111 or HIST 1112. The topics selected will vary with the professor offering the course. Graduate students will have reading or research projects not required of undergraduates.

HIST 5556. Selected Topics in Ancient/Medieval History (3-0-3) Prerequisite: HIST 1111 or HIST 1112. Selected topics in world history to 1500. Areas and topics of study vary with instructor. May be taken twice for credit.

HIST 5557. Selected Topics in British History (3-0-3) Prerequisite: HIST 1111 or HIST 1112. Selected topics in English and British history. May be taken twice for credit.

HIST 5558. Selected Topics in Early Modern/Modern History (3-0-3) Prerequisite: HIST 1111 or HIST 1112. Selected topics in world history after 1450. Areas and topics of study vary with instructor. May be taken twice for credit.

HIST 5565. Selected Topics in Russian History (3-0-3) Prerequisite: HIST 1111 or HIST 1112. Selected topics in Russian History from the rise of the Kievan state to the present. Topics may include Russia and the Nationalities, Intellectual History of Russia, Russian Workers and Society or History of Russian Women. May be taken twice for credit.

HIST 5566. Selected Topics in African American History (3-0-3) Prerequisite: HIST 2110. Topics in African American history ranging from African background to the present. Topics selected by instructor. Graduate students will have additional reading and research projects not required for undergraduates.

HIST 7505. Selected Topics in European History (3-0-3) Topics selected by the instructor. May be taken twice if topic changes.

HIST 7506. Selected Topics in Latin American Civilization (3-0-3) Selected topics in Latin American civilization. May be taken twice for credit if topic changes.
