Organizational Note
According to a booklet published by the society in 1983 on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the state of Georgia, "the society was initiated in 1977 for the purpose of giving recognition to ladies who have contributed to the advancement of our Southern "gracious" way of life. Contributions which have not only affected the individual's community, but in some cases have reached out to touch the lives of many in our state and across the country."
