The Artist’s Blacksmith’s Association of North America Collection (MC 399)

Organizational Note

The Anvil's Ring and The Hammer's Blow are publications of the Artist's Blacksmith's Association of North America, or ABANA, which was founded at Westville Historic Handicrafts located in Lumpkin, Georgia in 1973. Historic Westville, as it is now known, encourage guests to experience life in the 1850s through handicrafts such as sewing, woodworking, and blacksmithing. In 2017, Historic Westville began its move to Columbus, Georgia and will reopen in 2019.

Scope and Content

This collection consists of three periodicals produced by the Artist-Blacksmiths' Association of North America (ABANA), including The Anvil's Ring, The Hammer's Blow, and the Appalachian Area Chapter newsletter. The Anvil's Ring contains issues from 1974 to 2017 plus an index for issues not present in this collection which can still be ordered from the ABANA organization. The collection of The Hammer's Blow dates from 1993 to 2017. The Appalachian Area Chapter newsletter runs from 1983-1987. Note to researchers - some dates and issues become out of order or are mis-labeled across the different publications. For example, The Anvil's Ring, Volume 36 has two issues labeled as Number 2 but one is Winter 2008 and the other is Fall 2008. Fall 2008 should have been listed as issue number 3.
