The Columbus State Art Department is proud to host the sixth annual High School Art Throw Down Invitational!
Select your best and brightest art students to compete in the annual Art Throw Down Invitational and be part of history as they compete in various categories ranging from two- and three-dimensional media to animation and graphic design. In each competition, students will be taught a specific skill by CSU faculty for a 30-minute period and then be given 2 hours to create a work of art by incorporating what they have learned.
Give your book-loving and creative writing students a chance to shine in the annual Art Throw Down Invitational, where they can compete in tests of knowledge about literary genres ranging from fantasy and Sci-fi to canonical lit or match their skills against other students in creative writing and recitation categories, including spoken word and Poetry Out Loud. In each competition, students will be taught a specific skill by CSU faculty for a 30-minute period and then be given 2 hours to create a work of art by incorporating what they have learned.

Special Notice: All students participating must wear close-toed shoes and pants—no shorts. If a student arrives to the Throw Down not dressed appropriately they will not be allowed to participate.
Most Valuable Artist Award Push Pin Show and Scholarship
Please have your students prepare a piece of art based on the following prompt:
The taste of an apple
- 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional work will be accepted, dimensions should not exceed 12” in height width or depth.
- Teachers will bring their students’ work to the event and hang their students’ pieces while the students are in their workshops.
- The Most Valuable Artist Award will be given during the awards ceremony and comes with a $5,000 scholarship as long as the student meets the requirements to attend CSU.
What You Need to Do Beforehand
Select your best art students to be part of a twelve-person art competition team with two alternates in the event of the unforeseen (14 students total). Make selections based on skill level and in specific disciplines. Competitive categories can range from two- and three-dimensional media to animation and graphic design.
In each competition, students will be taught a specific skill by CSU faculty for a 30-minute period and then be given 2 hours to create a work of art by incorporating what they have learned.
