The Art Education Experiential Learning Lab
The Art Education Experiential Learning Lab provides a stimulating environment in which undergraduate Art Education majors can develop and pilot lessons of their own design to gain valuable pre-service teaching experience. The Art Education teaching candidates are paired with a group of area high school students who sign up for the program from participating high schools. Where they are immersed in creating artwork in and around the Columbus State University Art Department and its facilities. High school students that have participated in the Art Education Experiential Learning Lab have gone on to receive several scholarships and awards at Columbus State University. The program is held after school so area students have time to travel from their school to the experiential learning lab housed in the Seaboard Depot at Columbus State University’s River Park Campus.
The Department of Art is committed to providing challenging coursework in Art Education pedagogy, curriculum content, and assessment consistent with national, state, and local standards and goals, and the experiential lab supports this effort
