College of Education and Health Professions Scholarships

Applications for available Teacher Education Scholarships are accessed through the Scholarship Universe portal.

Application deadline for the next academic year (FA/SP): February 21.

 

Incoming FRESHMAN may apply for these:

Paula and Miriam Witt Family Scholarship

Anticipated allocation $2133 (split between FA and SP) for 3 recipients

  • May be given to entering freshmen who exhibit the potential of successfully completing a course of study leading to a degree in teacher education.
  • Renewable up to 4 years with reapplication.
  • Recipients will be known as Witt Scholars.
George and Norma Roberts First Generation Undergraduate Scholarship

Anticipated allocation $1000 (split between FA and SP) for 2 recipients

  • Awarded to incoming freshmen enrolled full-time who evidence the ability to success academically.
  • Must live on campus.
  • Preference given to COEHP students in bachelor’s degree programs that lead to certification in a teaching field.
  • 3.0 or better high school GPA.

 

UNDERGRADUATE students ONLY may apply for these:

Anne Dougherty Pergl Altrusa Teacher Education Scholarship

Anticipated allocation $2200 (split between FA and SP) for 1 recipient

  • Recipient must be an undergraduate student in a Teacher Education program during the time the scholarship is used.
  • Elementary Education major.
  • Merit based.
  • Recipients will be known as Anne Dougherty Pergl Altrusa Scholars.
Dr. Kimberly Scott Teacher Education Scholarship

Anticipated allocation of $500 for 1 recipient

  • Recipient must be a junior or senior undergraduate student in a Teacher Education program during the time the scholarship is used.
  • Priority to members of a National Pan-Hellenic Council Sorority or Fraternity with strong records of school or community service.
  • Preference to military veterans or who are children or grandchildren of current military service members or veterans.
  • Recipients will be known as Scott Scholars.
Mildred H. Hollinshead Teacher Education Scholarship

Anticipated allocation $1300 (split between FA and SP) for 1 recipient

  • Recipient must be an undergraduate student in a Teacher Education program during the time the scholarship is used.
  • Recipient must be an African American female.
  • 2.5 GPA minimum required.
  • Recipients will be known as Mildred H. Hollinshead Scholars.
Paula and Miriam Witt Family Scholarship

Anticipated allocation $2133 (split between FA and SP) for 3 recipients

  • May be given to upperclassmen/women already successfully pursing a course of study leading to a degree in teacher education.
  • Renewable up to 4 years with reapplication.
  • Recipients will be known as Witt Scholars.
Purcell Teacher Education Scholarship

Anticipated allocation $1900 (split between FA and SP) for 10 recipients

  • Recipient must be an undergraduate student in a Teacher Education program during the time the scholarship is used.
  • Financial need based.

 

UNDERGRADUATE OR GRADUATE students may apply for these:

Aflac Teacher Education Scholarship

Anticipated allocation $625 (split between FA and SP) for 2 recipients

  • Recipient must be a junior or senior undergraduate or a graduate student in a Teacher Education program during the time the scholarship is used.
  • Priority 3.0+ GPA
  • Priority Aflac employee or family member of an Aflac employee
Dr. Frances M. Duncan and Richard L. Duncan Scholarship for the Physically Disabled

Anticipated allocation $1200 (split between FA and SP) for 2 recipients

  • Recipient must have a documented ADA physical disability.
  • Undergraduate or graduate.
  • Education major in good standing.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA is required.
  • Demonstrated academic and leadership potential.
  • Recipients will be known as Richard L. Duncan Scholars.
Ophelia Fleming Alsobrook Teacher Education Scholarship

Anticipated allocation $2080 (split between FA and SP) for 5 recipients

  • Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in a Teacher Education program during the time the scholarship is used.
  • 3.0 minimum GPA required.
  • Priority to students who reside/resided in Talbot County or are preparing to teach/administrate in the Talbot County School System.
  • Recipients will be known as Ophelia Fleming Alsobrook Scholars.
Tina Jones Teacher Education Memorial Scholarship

Anticipated allocation $1000 for one recipient

  • Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in a Teacher Education program during the time the scholarship is used.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Priority will be given to individuals who plan to teach in Muscogee or Harris County.
  • Recipients will be known as Jones Scholars.
  • The Center for Quality Teaching and Learning staff will review applications and interview the top candidates as part of the selection process.
Virginia Pekor Culpepper Teacher Education Scholarship

Anticipated allocation $1000 (split between FA and SP) for 2 recipients

  • Recipient must be a junior or senior undergraduate or a graduate student in a Teacher Education program during the time the scholarship is used.
  • Priority to 3.0 or greater GPA.
  • Preference given to applicant who is a public-school graduate, with 1st preference given to a Muscogee county public school graduate.
  • Financial need based.
  • Recipients will be known as Virginia Pekor Culpepper Scholars.
The Georgia Power Teachers for Georgia Scholarship

Anticipated allocation $1000 (split between FA and SP) for 2 recipients

  • Recipient must be a full-time junior or senior undergraduate or a graduate student in a Teacher Education program during the time the scholarship is used.
  • Selection based on merit and/or financial need.
  • Preference to Georgia residents.
  • Preference to students who have overcome socioeconomic/educational disadvantage.
  • Preference to first generation students.
  • Recipients will be known as Georgia Power Foundation Teachers for Georgia Scholars.
The Sandee Scruggs Elementary Education Scholarship

 

  • Recipient must have one of these military ties:
    • Military spouse
    • Dependent of an honorably discharged soldier
    • Dependent of an active-duty soldier
    • Veteran
  • Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in a Teacher Education program during the time the scholarship is used.
  • Must be pursuing a degree in Elementary Education.
College of Education Endowment Scholarship

Anticipated allocation $300-$500 for up to 10 students

  • Can be used for any teacher education pre-service candidate (usually reserve this for students who run into financial issues towards the end of their program to help them finish).
  • The Center for Quality Teaching and Learning staff will review applications and interview the top candidates to recommend the top pool of potential recipients to the Dean of the College of Education and Health Professions.
Caroline Lawson Ivey Memorial Foundation Scholarship

Anticipated allocation$2100 (split between FA and SP) for 3 recipients

  • For History Education majors only (History BA: Secondary Ed Track or MAT in Sec Ed: History or Middle Grades: Social Studies)
  • Full-time students, maintaining at least a 2.8 GPA.
  • Recipients will be known as Ivey Scholars.

 

GRADUATE students ONLY may apply for these:

Kinetic Credit Union - LB Hickson Memorial Teacher Education Scholarship

Anticipated allocation $1000 for 1 recipient

  • Recipient must be a graduate student in a Teacher Education program during the time the scholarship is used.
  • Recipient must be a member of the Kinetic Credit Union.
  • Recipient must be a certified teacher with full-time teaching experience of at least 3 years.
Dr. Ellen L. Roberts Graduate Scholarship in Education

Anticipated allocation $1650 (split between FA and SP) for 2 recipients

  • Awarded to graduate students enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours.
  • Preference given to COEHP students enrolled in any MAT, MS, MED, EDS, or EDD program (to include counseling, all teaching fields, leadership, curriculum and instruction, kinesiology/health sciences)
  • GPA of 3.25 or higher.
  • Recipients will be known as Ellen Roberts Scholars.
