Biography
Dr. Laura June Davis's teaching and research focus on American history through the long 19th century, with an emphasis on gender, identity, community, and the military. Her current manuscript project focuses on sabotage, irregular naval warfare, and masculinity during the Civil War. She is also working on articles about 19th century dueling culture in the U.S. navy, memory & commemoration within the Confederate Navy, and Civil War era confiscation.Dr. Davis joined the Columbus State University faculty in the Fall of 2023, where she will be teaching courses in American history, 19th century U.S. history, historical methods and research, military/naval history, and gender history. Prior to coming to CSU, she taught seven years at Southern Utah University, earning the rank of Associate Professor. There, she taught HIST 1700: American Civilizations, courses on 19th Century American history, the Civil War & Reconstruction, American Slavery, Gender & Women's history, Women's Studies, and Social Studies Education. She also served as the Co-Chair of the Women and Gender Studies program and the departmental coordinator of the History Education & Social Science Teaching Composite programs.
