Biography

Monica Frazier is Professor and Chair of the Biology Department at Columbus State University. She is also the PI and Director of the Southwest Georgia LSAMP Alliance. She earned her B.S. in Chemistry from Alabama State University where she studied the mitogenic effects of tritium on BHK cells. She earned her PhD in Virology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her graduate studies involved the characterization of modified poliovirus replicons and virions encoding an RGD integrin-binding motif on its surface. She then completed her post-doctoral research at Emory University Winship Cancer Institute where she studied proteomic changes induced by dibenzoylmethane (DBM) in prostate cancer cells. Her studies also investigated models to identify the mechanisms by which DBM induced cell cycle arrest and repressed the expression of the androgen receptor. Following her postdoctoral studies, she became a Research Assistant Professor at Tuskegee University before obtaining a tenure track position at the level of Assistant Professor in the Biology department at Columbus State University. Her current research investigates the structure-activity relationship (SAR) of imidazolium and benzimidazolium salts on cancer cell growth and viability.
