Biography
Allen Yueh is an American pianist and pedagogue serving as Lecturer of Piano and Preparatory Coordinator at the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University. Previously, he served on both the piano and theory faculties at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he was also chair of the DMA Committee.
Yueh is a laureate of numerous competitions, including First Prize at The Fourth New York International Piano Competition, Gold Award at the 2009 YoungARTS festival, and was distinguished as one of 20 Presidential Scholars in the Arts, performing at the Kennedy Center. Yueh was recognized as a top prize winner of the MTNA National Finals in 2017.
Yueh has been invited frequently by the Stecher and Horowitz Foundation to perform in New York City, New York State, and Washington DC, and was featured in the PBS documentary film On a Personal Note. Yueh was also invited to concertize at the Shandelee Music Festival in New York in 2006, 2012, 2013, and 2016.
Dr. Yueh holds degrees from Harvard University, New York University, Columbus State University, and the Cleveland Institute of Music. His mentors include: Melvin Stecher, Norman Horowitz, Alexander Kobrin, Haesun Paik, and Daniel Shapiro.
Dr. Yueh uses his experiences to bridge the gap between theoretical analysis and performance practice. As theory faculty, Yueh has taught classes including: 18th Century Counterpoint, The Late Beethoven Piano Sonatas, and the DMA Analytical Seminar. Yueh is also teaching the Piano Pedagogy classes at Schwob.
