Military Credit - Columbus State University

Office of the Registrar

Military Credit

Students with current or prior military service may be able to receive college credit for their military coursework or occupational training by submitting an official Joint Services Transcript (JST).

The JST has replaced the Coast Guard Institute Transcript, the Army/American Council on Education Registry Transcript System (AARTS), and the Sailor/Marine American Council on Education Registry Transcript (SMART). The JST is academically recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE) in serving to validate a service member‘s military experience and training.

JSTs can be ordered at https://jst.doded.mil/

The JST system is designed to send official transcripts electronically to CSU. CSU will evaluate JSTs exclusively for students who have been formally accepted and have had all transfer credit reviewed and awarded.

Once these conditions have been met, students will be able to submit the “JST Credit Evaluation Agreement Form.” This form can be found in “MyCSU” under the “forms” tab.

Once submitted, the form will be sent to the Registrar’s Office for review. Evaluations may require up to two weeks. Please note that if you have not been formally admitted and/or had all transfer credit reviewed and awarded- you will not be able to submit this form.

Please be informed that, in accordance with policy, a minimum of 25 percent of the credit hours necessary for an undergraduate degree must be completed through courses offered by CSU. This requirement does not encompass transfer coursework or credits acquired through prior learning, including JST credit. Credits obtained from Joint Services Transcripts must be utilized to fulfill degree requirements. If there is no available "space" in a program of study, no credit will be granted.
