Prerequisites: Admission to Teacher Education;

determined by major. The second of two practica linked to requirements in
middle grades or a secondary education program (English and social
studies)
EDCI 4485 Student Teaching - (0-40-10)
Prerequisites: Admission to Teacher Education and Student
Teaching. Co-requisites: EDUF 4115, EDUF 4000, EDCI 4795, SPED 4255;
current proof of liability insurance and current CPR certificate are
required prior to student teaching. Observation, participation, and
instruction in a school classroom in the student's major field.
Cooperative supervision by selected classroom teachers and college
faculty. (S/U grading)
EDCI 4795 Student Teaching Seminar - (1-0-1)
Co-requisite: EDCI 4485, ARTE 4485, PELM 4485, or SPED 4485.
Discussion of common problems encountered in student teaching conducted in
a seminar setting.
EDCI 5000 Field Experience - (0-0-0)
Prerequisites: Admission to Teacher Education Program or
department approval. Documentation of 400 hours of field experience
dispersed throughout existing education courses and non-credit field
experiences. Samples of productivity, logs, and journals to be submitted
prior to student teaching.
EDCI 5555 Selected Topics in Curriculum and Instruction - (1-3)
Selected topics in curriculum and instruction. Course may be taken three
times for credit when topics differ.
EDCI 6118 Teaching Composition in Grades 4-12 - (3-0-3)
Curriculum and methods for teaching writing in grades 4-12, with analysis
of NCTE/IRA Standards. Focus on the teacher as writer using the workshop
approach.
EDCI 6158 Trends and Issues in Middle Grades and Secondary Education - (2-0-2)
A survey of contemporary trends and issues affecting middle-grades and
secondary curriculum and teaching. Consideration of school reform,
technology, multi cultural/global perspectives, national standards, and
inclusion.
EDCI 6159 Integrating Multicultural/Global Studies Throughout the
Curriculum - (3-0-3)
An examination and study of literature, curricula, and psychological
issues that recognize and appreciate ethnic differences within an
education setting.
EDCI 6225 Foundations of Education - 2-8
Prerequisites: Admission to Teacher Education. College baccalaureate
degree in teaching or related field area. This course is specifically
designed for students entering teacher education at the graduate level who
ossess an undergraduate degree in a related discipline. Students will
examine American education, human development, learning, diverse
populations, and persons with special needs. Course is offered in 4
modules including American Education, Instructional rategies (includes a
40-hour field experience), Human Development and Learning, and Special
Education.
EDCI 6235 Space Science Methods, Grades 4-12 - (2-2-3)
Curriculum design, implementation strategies, and selection of materials
for space science (selected topics)
EDCI 6255 Teacher Inquiry and Investigation - (1-2-2)
Prerequisite or Co-requisite: EDCI 6158. An individualized
inquiry, paper of reflection, or action research project on an approved
topic related to the student's level or content specialty. Presentation at
graduate colloquium or to other professional audience.
EDCI 6698 Teaching Internship - (1-6)
Prerequisites: Approval of Academic Advisor and Coordinator of
Student Teaching. Co-requisites: EDUF 4115, EDUF 4000, EDCI 4795, SPED
4255 or equivalent courses; current proof of liability insurance and
current CPR certificate are required prior to the internship. An
internship for working teachers establishing credit for initial
certification in Georgia. Outcomes-based assessment and portfolio
development.
EDCI 7115 K-12 Curriculum Studies: English Language Arts - (3-0-3)
Curriculum theory, design, and evaluation in English language arts, K-12.
Analysis of NCTE/IRA Standards and model curricula.
EDCI 7158 Leadership in the Curriculum Change Process - (2-0-2)
A consideration of the curriculum process related to providing leadership
in planned curriculum change.
EDCI 7359 Specialist Project - (0-4-2)
Prerequisites: EDCI 7158. A capstone course through which
candidates demonstrate their knowledge, problem-solving, and leadership
skills. (S/U grading.)
