EDGR 6148 Psychology of Reading: Understanding Readers and the Reading Process - (2-0-2)
Explores the psychological foundations of reading as a communication system and reading as a learned behavior. This course includes a study of the effects of the mental and physical aspects of learning to read - the maturation process.

EDGR 6255 Summer Reading Institute - (4-2-5)
Explores the psychological foundations of reading as a communication system and reading as a learned behavior. Formal and informal evaluation of students with reading difficulties; procedures for recommending remediation.

EDGR 6756 Classroom Literacy Seminar - (1-0-1)
This seminar will provide a forum for students to reflect upon strategy implementation in their classrooms. During the seminar students will present documentation of strategy implementation - Reading Endorsement Portfolio.

EDRG 3115 Basic Preparation for Teaching Reading - (2-0-2)
Provides students with a fundamental framework in teaching reading - including terminology, emergent literacy, word recognition, and comprehension skills, phonics mastery and other techniques, methods, and materials.

EDRG 4219 Diagnostic and Prescriptive Reading Instruction - (2-2-3)
Prerequisites: Admission to Teacher Education. Analysis and remediation of diagnosed reading strengths and weaknesses using formal and informal assessment instruments and techniques. Required field componet is part of the course.

EDRG 6116 Integrating Literacy Strategies in the Middle Grades - (3-0-3)
An examination of several models of reading with implications for the design, development, and evaluation of appropriate instructional practices at the middle grades and secondary educational level.

EDRG 6118 Methods and Materials for Teaching Reading in Early Childhood - (3-0-3)
Principles and strategies of teaching reading. Provides a balance between theory and practice of reading methodologies.

EDRG 6245 Assessment and Classroom Instruction - (2-2-3)
Prerequisites: Consent of department. Formal and informal evaluation of students with reading difficulties. Procedures for recommended remediation.
