GRNT 5101 Social Research 1 - (3-0-3)
Prerequisites: SOCI 1101. The scientific method and the role of
theory as applicable to sociological research; research Design,
measurement, sampling, and research ethics. Writing research
reports.
GRNT 5102 Social Research 2 - (3-0-3)
Prerequisites: SOCI 3101. Statistical methods; utilization of
skills learned in Social Research 1; conducting original research; writing
research reports; SPSS.
GRNT 5105 Psychology of Aging - (3-0-3)
Prerequisites: PSYC 1101. Overview of research methods and
findings on psychological and behavioral processes during aging. Emphasis
on current research on learning, memory, and cognition in aging.
GRNT 5106 Sociology of Aging - (3-0-3)
Prerequisites: SOCI 1101. The sociological analysis of aging in
modern society. The examination of aging as a social construct and the
attitudes and values surrounding the aging process primarily within an
American context.
GRNT 5107 Survey of Gerontology - (3-0-3)
The purpose of the course is to provide an introduction and overview of
the biology, psychology, and sociology of aging. In addition, contemporary
topics related to older individuals and aging are introduced.
GRNT 5108 Psychological Issues in Death & Dying - (3-0-3)
Prerequisites: PSYC 1101. An examination of facts, concepts, and
theories related to psychological issues in death and dying; examination
of empirical data pertaining to controversial concepts.
GRNT 5109 Sociology of Medicine and Mental Disorders - (3-0-3)
Prerequisites: SOCI 1101. Sociological concepts will be used to
investigate issues in health, illness, and medical care systems. Students
will learn the social construction of health, illness, and mental health
and explore healthcare delivery systems and community care with a focus on
the relationship between the healthcare system and the elderly.
GRNT 6698 Internship - (3 hours)
Prerequisites: Departmental approval. Supervised experience in
the field with an approved agency or organization.
