Biographical Note
Margaret Mitchell was the author of Gone With the Wind, published in 1936 by the Macmillan Company. The book met with great acclaim and was an instant hit, all 1037 pages. Two weeks before publication in June, the novel had achieved the largest advance sale of any book. It was already the choice of the Book of the Month Club for July. By July 15th, 1936, the motion picture rights of the novel had been sold to Selznick International Pictures, Inc. The price was believed to be the highest ever paid for a first novel. The movie Gone with the Wind premiered in 1939 to rave reviews.

Provenance
This material was donated to the CSU Archives by the Columbus Public Library in the fall of 2013 when the Public Library closed their archival collection. It was originally numbered MC 041 by the public library. There is no information on who donated the material but there is a date of January 1, 2008.
