Gloria Sampson Collection (MC 351)
Biographical Note
Gloria Sampson is a native of Montana, where she lived until her family moved to Alaska when she was in high school. She holds a BFA from the California School of Art and Design at Oakland. She first came to Georgia in 1972-1973 when her husband, dermatologist Dr. Lloyd Sampson, was stationed at Ft. Benning. She paints in her studio daily and has produced three books, 35 travel sketchbook-journals and has illustrated additional publications. She is a member of several watercolor societies and her work is frequently shown in national juried exhibitions. Scope and Content
The 5 boxes of watercolors and drawings are of the churches and synagogues in Sampson's book Historic Churches and Temples of Georgia. The boxes correspond to the chapters in her book and the drawings listed in each chapter. There are also 10 framed paintings. The 6th box houses her book, brochure and photographs of the works sold before donating the collection to the CSU archives in 2015.
