Pasaquan Preservation Society Records (MC 368)
Organizational Note
After the death of Eddie O. Martin (July 4, 1908-April 16, 1987), his estate was left to the Marion County Historical Society of Buena Vista, Georgia. The Historical Society established a Pasaquan Preservation Committee to manage the land, buildings, art work and papers. Around 1991 a decision was made to dispose of much of the art. Some pieces were donated to museums and others were sold, mainly to raise funds for the preservation of the built environment. Eventually a separate entity, the Pasaquan Preservation Society (PPS) was formed to focus on the Pasaquan site exclusively. It was incorporated in 2004, and assumed responsibility for the land, built environment, art work, and documents relating to Eddie O. Martin (St. EOM). Documentary materials created after Martin's death are in this collection. Those materials dating to his life-time are found in the Pasaquan Collection (MC 327).
In 2007 discussions began with the Kohler Family Foundation to assume title to all Eddie O. Martin related materials, including the real estate, papers and remaining art, and to undertake a major restoration project at the site. At the completion of the restoration project in 2015, the real estate, most of the artwork and the archives were deeded to the CSU foundation. The papers of Eddie O. Martin and the Pasaquan Preservation Society were deposited with the CSU Archives. The CSU Art Department assumed the management of the Pasaquan site as of January 1, 2016.
Scope and Content
These materials consist of the files of the Pasaquan Preservation Society, as well as a few relating to the Marion County Historical Society Pasaquan Preservation Committee. These records fall into the following broad categories: Board of Directors (meeting agendas, minutes, etc.); Collection Management (loans, sales, donations and exhibitions of Martin's artwork); Correspondence; Donors; Estate of Eddie O. Martin; Events; Finances (audits, statements, expenses, etc.); Grants; Insurance; Membership; Publications; Publicity; and Site Management (repairs, maintenance, restorations, etc.). In addition to the textual materials, there is a large group of photographs, slides, films and other audio/visual materials, as well as a large group of newspaper and magazine clippings.

Folder 36 - Collection Management - Inventory, Nos. P101-P285, July 2, 1986 After Eddie O. Martin committed suicide on April 16, 1986, the Columbus Museum agreed to take custody of his possessions. They prepared an inventory of items which were received by the Museum in July of 1986. This inventory listed the number assigned to each object, a title or description, which room in his house each item came from, it condition, the initial of the person who inventoried the object and a fair market evaluation. Folders 36 and 37 contain these inventory sheets. There are a few missing pages.

Folder 38 - Collection Management - Inventory, Nos. P1-P312, April 7, 1994 In 1991 the Pasaquan Preservation Society decided to dispose of much of the art of Eddie O. Martin, and used the services of their long-time representative, the Connell Galleries of Atlanta. Their sales records referred to the inventory numbers. In April of 1994 The Columbus Museum returned the unsold items to the PPS, with an annotated copy of the original inventory of 1986. These sheets are contained in Folders 38 and 39. There are numerous annotations on this copy of how various pieces were disposed of, what museums received pieces as gifts, and many times the prices paid for the items sold. Related correspondence and invoices from the Connell Galleries are contained in Folders 21 and 22.

Media
The various media items arrived with no discernible arrangement and although some of the correspondence in both the Pasaquan Collection (MC 327) and in the Pasaquan Preservation Society Records (MC 368) probably refers to some of these materials, that association was not maintained. It is hoped that future research will re-associate the textual materials and the DVDs, CDs, films, cassette recordings, slides, photographs and other audio-visual materials that are referred to in these to collections. It should also be mentioned that these items need to be placed in proper archival containers and those which have not already been reformatted from analog to digital formats need to be transferred,

Box 5 "Vintage Photos"
Note to Researchers:
The following two boxes contain binders of photographs in no discernible order. They are mostly undated and unidentified, but are almost entirely images of the Pasaquan site, both interior and exterior scenes. Many are related to the textual materials in MC 368 and MC 327, but they were disassociated from their context at some point. All have been scanned, but there is no way to associate the scanned image with the physical photograph, nor vice versa. It is assumed that the terms "Vintage" and "Modern" refer to photographs taken before and after Eddie O. Martin's death.

Box 7 - Pre-preservation Photographs, ca. 2005
These photographs were made as part of the preparation for the Kohler Foundation to begin its restoration of the Pasaquan built environment. The photographs provide extremely detailed images of every element of the site, including structures and walls, each from several angles. There are three groupings, one filed in an alphabetical order (A-W), a second group alphabetical group (AA-DD), and one filed in a numerical order (1-34). There is no indication of the meanings of the groupings, but are they are filed in the order they were found. Some of the sheets have handwritten notes concerning colors, and even paint samples of various colors. The images are printed on letter sized paper on a laser color printer.
The location key for these photos is not present.
