Faculty Qualifications for Graduate Teaching, Theses, and Dissertations
Faculty qualifications for teaching graduate courses are judged on a course-by-course basis, informed by SACSCOC Guidelines for Faculty Credentials and Principle 6.2.A. Faculty whose educational credentials do not meet the SACSCOC Guidelines will require appropriate justification or Other Qualifications. Additional requirements for teaching graduate courses may be determined by a department or program. This evaluation typically takes place during the hiring process for full-time and part-time faculty members teaching graduate courses. As part of the annual review process, the performance of each faculty member, including those with tenured positions, rankings, contracts, and adjunct/part-time roles, will be evaluated for quality and effectiveness.
Faculty qualifications for supervising theses/dissertations and serving on a thesis/dissertation committee are set by the department or the college offering the graduate program. The departments/colleges should keep documentation of the qualifications, the process used to set them up (such as minutes from meetings), and how they are assessed.
