Non-CSU Education Abroad Scholarships
Numerous scholarships exist for students needing financial assistance to study abroad. The scholarships listed below are not associated with Columbus State University. The following list of scholarships is provided for your convenience but is not comprehensive. Students are encouraged to research external scholarships for which they may qualify.
For assistance in writing your scholarship essay, you can make an appointment with a writing tutor at the Academic Center for Tutoring by calling 706-507-8646, or visiting Simon Schwob Memorial Library (2nd Floor).
Students must apply for these scholarships through the respective organizations and follow all eligibility requirements & guidelines. These scholarships are usually nationally competitive, although they are worth the effort when one is awarded.
Fund for Education Abroad Scholarship
- Programs during the upcoming academic year; must be 28 days (4 weeks) or longer.
- Non-traditional students/locations/disciplines encouraged!
- Awards up to $10,000 for the academic year, $5,000 for the semester, or prorated by the number of weeks in-country (minimum of $1,250) for summer applicants.
- Any program in the upcoming academic year-no length requirement
- Awards of up to $1000 available
International Student- Travel Video Contest
- Any program in the upcoming academic year-no length requirement
- Must submit a video
- Award of $4000 available
- Apply at least 1 year ahead of time through local Rotary chapter
- Awards up to $30,000
- Any program in the upcoming academic year- no length requirement
- GPA of at least 3.75
- Awards of $1,000 available
National Society of Collegiate Scholars
- Must be a member of NSCS
- Programs in underrepresented areas & languages
- Programs must be at least 8 weeks long
- Awards up to $20,000
Gilman Education Abroad Scholarship
- Pell-eligible students only
- Programs must be at least 4 weeks long
- Maximum award is $5,000 / Average award is $4,000
- A dependent child of an active-duty military member(s) during the time of the application
- Recipient of any type of Title IV federal financial aid
- Maximum award is $5,000 to be used toward the cost of study abroad or international internship programs.
- Semester or year-long programs in Japan
- Awards available from $2,500 (max) for the semester or $4,000 (max) for the academic year
AASCU Scholarship for Education Abroad in China
- Year-long programs in China
- Awards of approximately $10,000 available (25 award recipients)
- For U.S undergrad students with demonstrated Financial need to study in East or South East Asia
- Are required to complete a survey and a service project
- Awards of approximately up to $3,000 for summer, up to $5,000 for semester & up to $7,000 for Academic Year
- Semester or year-long programs in Germany
- Awards available from $3,000-$8,000 (monthly stipend)
- For underrepresented groups only; apply as sophomore
- Must major in a field related to International Studies
- Must plan to attend graduate school
Foundation for Global Scholars
- Degree-seeking students with U.S. or Canadian citizenship
- Over 200 awards annually between $500 to $2500
Critical Languages Scholarship
- Fully funded intensive language programs managed by U.S. Dept of State
- Approx 600 awards annually
- For recent graduates and/or graduate students
Travel Grant from the English-Speaking Union of the United States
- Requires Membership.
- Must be traveling to a country within the British Commonwealth
- Graduate study programs within the United Kingdom
- Graduate study programs at Oxford
Study in Switzerland Scholarship List
- Only if your program of interest is Switzerland

CISabroad Grants & Scholarships (Multiple options)
- Must participate in a CISabroad program.
- Must have Merit, First-Generation, Student of Color, Rainbow, and Greek Life scholarships.
- Also Passport, Gilman, and Flight Voucher Grants available.
- Awards range from $250 - $750
